About This Novel
A small steamer from the Heilongjiang River Defense Fleet of the Puppetry of Manchukuo meanders up the Noro River. The sky is blue, the sun is high, and there is only a thin smoke-like cloud in the distant mountains. Hino Takeo, the major general of the mixed brigade stationed in Sanjiang Province in the Second Military District of the Puppet Manchukuo, stood on the front deck, wearing white gloves on both hands, holding a command knife that was hammered to the ground. The black soot from the chimney hung on his eyebrows and his small mustache. Hino Takeo's entourage, one is the colonel of the Sanjiang Provincial Guards of the Japanese Kwantung Army, one is a puppet Manchurian officer under his subordinates, the other is a military pigeon correspondent, and nine Japanese and Manchurian soldiers serving as guards are dozing tiredly in the cabin. At around 7 o'clock in the morning, they set off from Dong'an Town at the confluence of the Noro River and the Ussuri River and had been sailing continuously for more than four hours. Hino Takeo has been standing like this.
