About This Novel
"The Book of Dreams" is Kerouac's original private diary, which faithfully records about two hundred of his dreams. In this book, he takes the "improvisational writing" method to the extreme, recording his thoughts in a more real, original and unmodified way. The dreams may seem chaotic, but whether he is sleeping or awake, Kerouac is always concerned about his interpersonal relationships. In the dream, he worked with his mother, met his long-dead father, went on a road trip with friends, returned to the high school football field, and resumed his job on the railroad... Although the characters and scenes were ever-changing, they often echoed the plots in his novels.
