About This Novel
This book is set in Shimao Village and focuses on the life course of the protagonist Baoyan (Li Baoyan). Baoyan returned to his hometown from the urban waste collection station, took over the mutual aid cooperative that was on the verge of dissolution, and led the villagers to rebuild the rural community. It is interspersed with the rise and fall of the peasant drama club, the game between rural enterprises and capital, and the growth and departure of the younger generation. The novel uses eye-catching emotional and career lines as the main axis, depicts a picture of all living beings in the process of rural modernization, and explores the persistence and reconstruction of traditional rural civilization under the impact of marketization, as well as the ideals and dilemmas of grassroots managers.
