About This Novel
"Shishuoxinyu" was compiled under the leadership of Liu Yiqing, a writer from the Southern Song Dynasty. It is a representative of ancient Chinese aristocratic novels. It mainly records the words and deeds of celebrities from the late Eastern Han Dynasty to the Wei and Jin Dynasties. The stories in the book are divided into thirty-six categories according to content, including "virtue", "speech", "political affairs", "literature" and "rightness", with a total of more than 1,200 stories. "Shishuoxinyu" uses minimalist pen and ink to focus on the social atmosphere of that time that valued talent, good wit, good conversation, and advocating nature. Many famous articles became the material of opera novels or commonly used allusions in poetry in later generations, and they have an important position in the history of Chinese literature.
