About the author Yuan Zhang, whose real name is Xiong Rongyuan, is from the Miao ethnic group. He was born in December 1968 to a poor family on the border between China and Vietnam. Master of Communication from Lille University of Technology in France, now working at Wenshan College. He has served as a primary and secondary school teacher, Communist Youth League officer, political and legal police officer, discipline inspection cadre, and university teacher. He has successively served as secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission and executive deputy county magistrate of Qiubei County, county magistrate and secretary of the county party committee of Funing County, member of the Standing Committee of the Wenshan Prefecture Committee, and director of the Propaganda Department. He has published a collection of political essays "Moving" and a collection of poems "Heart of the Cloud".
