About This Novel
Reading through Lei Yuanfu's collection of essays "Autumn Waters Last", two words suddenly came to my mind: compassion. Most of the chapters in the collection are about recalling the past, telling sad and pitiable past events. The sad longing for relatives and friends and the compensation for shortcomings are the top priorities in the text. This constitutes a distinctive color of this collection: overflowing with sadness to increase emotion, and using compassion to induce sympathy. The deep affection of loess is created and becomes more intense in such an atmosphere.
