About This Novel
This is one of the "New Collections of Shen Congwen's Prose" and is also a collection of Shen Congwen's letters about western Hunan. In early 1934, Shen Congwen returned home due to his mother's illness. Before leaving, he and his wife Zhang Zhaohe agreed to write letters every day to report what they saw along the way. These letters and the illustrations drawn by the author had never been published publicly during the author's lifetime. It was not until 1991 that his son Shen Huchu compiled them into a volume and named them "Xiangxing Letters". The version is based on "The Complete Works of Shen Congwen" provided by the author's son.
