This book is divided into five parts. The first part discusses the achievements and weaknesses of Chinese philosophy and its differences with Western philosophy. The second part discusses the background and flaws of Chinese culture and the comparative study and evaluation of Chinese culture and Western culture. The third part is a comparative study of Chinese and Western literature, commenting on the style and characteristics of Chinese poetry, with particular emphasis on nature poetry and the poetic achievements of Li Bai and Du Fu. The fourth and fifth parts compile five essays by Mr. Xu, which involve and demonstrate Mr. Xu's research and achievements in other subject areas.
