About This Novel
Shibusawa Tatsuhiko, a preacher of Western European heterodox culture, a standard-bearer of fantasy literature, and a master of dark aesthetics known for his enchanting and gorgeous worldview, named his small study world "Tatsuhiko's Country". In this land, he used twelve strange stories as themes, including the Bird of Paradise, which has no legs and must fly continuously until it dies, and the Flying Man, whose head detaches from its body and flies into the vast night sky in its sleep. He weaves interesting chapters across the fields of religion, literature, folklore and art with free and easy writing style, forming this collection of essays full of heretical fun and whimsy.

You can read it first without buying the physical version (although I have already bought many) The main feeling given by Long Yan's books is not necessarily "dark aesthetics", and for those of us who read it, this term has a somewhat advanced and mysterious meaning. You may not understand it after reading it carefully, but you will be surprised every time you read a small chapter. Every time I finish reading Long Yan's book, my feeling is - "Huh? How come this person knows everything?" From absurd stories and oddities, to historical anecdotes, flower and bird calligraphy and painting... The scope is very wide, although after reading it, I feel as if I know a lot of useless things? But I will still open the next chapter to continue. This is probably the charm of words. It quotes many ancient Greek and foreign language poetic words, and many unknown painters and historical figures. There are some explanation notes at the bottom of each page. It seems really daunting at first... But I have to admire his erudition. I personally think that Long Yan is probably most famous as a "naturalist", and the so-called "dark aesthetics" are a bit unfamiliar to modern people. I will continue to read it again and again in the future. Hope everyone comes to see it. I really felt a magical feeling after watching it.
