About This Novel
"Selected French Prose" selects about 200 essays by 25 famous writers including Montaigne, Rousseau, and Chateaubriand. The humanistic spirit of French prose runs throughout this book. The author is concerned about human emotions and human destiny. Michelet among them, even in those exquisite proses that use birds, insects, mountains, and oceans as description objects, he also expresses his tenderness for human beings. Saint-Exupéry's concern for ordinary people and his pursuit of beautiful ideals in his works are touching.
