About This Novel
"Guan Xue" is an important school of Confucianism founded by Zhang Zai, with its disciples and inheritors from the Southern Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties as its main body. Its teaching and academic dissemination are based in Guanzhong. It is as famous as Luo Xue of Ercheng in the Song Dynasty, Hui Xue of Zhou Dunyi, Xin Xue of Wang Anshi, and Min Xue of Zhu Xi, and together constitute the mainstream of Confucianism in the Song Dynasty. Zhang Zai believes that when you are born in the world, you must respect the will of God, establish the heaven, the earth, and the people, be sincere, have a correct mind, study things, gain knowledge, understand reason, cultivate oneself, manage the family, govern the country and bring peace to the world, and strive to reach the realm of sages. The purpose of Guan Xue is concentratedly reflected in the four sentences of Hengqu summarized by the contemporary philosopher Feng Youlan: "Establish a heart for the heaven and earth, establish a destiny for the people, carry on the unique knowledge for the saints, and create peace for all generations." This book is a selection of papers from the International Seminar on Guan Studies held at Hengqu Academy in Mei County in 2018 (Year of Wuxu). It mainly includes research on Zhang Zai and Guan Studies figures, research on Guan Studies literature and history, research on Guan Studies descendants, etc.
