About This Novel
"High Society" is the fifth part of the "Aunt Jane's Niece" series created by the American writer Lyman Frank Baum (1856-1919) under the pen name of Edith Van Dyne. This series of books was mainly written for teenagers and was quite popular among readers at the time. Uncle John hoped that his three nieces, Beth, Patsy and Louise, could enter New York's upper class society, so he introduced the three girls into the social circle through Diana Van Til, who was well-known in society. At a party, Diana discovered that Arthur Weldon was in love with Louise, and she felt resentment in her heart. She enlisted her brother Charles to set up a conspiracy in order to achieve her own goals. Louise was thus involved in a kidnapping case.
