About This Novel

"The Lonely Traveler" is a collection of a series of travel-themed articles by Kerouac, author of "On the Road". From the southern United States to the east coast to the west coast to the remote northwest, he traveled to Mexico, Africa, Morocco, Paris, and London. He took a boat across two oceans: the Atlantic and the Pacific, and met all kinds of interesting people and cities. He went to work on the railway, on the cargo ship, in the mountains, chatted and played with the "Beat Generation" in New York, and visited churches and museums in Paris, vividly showing the life of an independent and educated but penniless prodigal who lived all over the world.
