About This Novel
The author compiled poems and collected his experiences and knowledge during his period in the countryside to the Heilongjiang Production and Construction Corps into a volume. He expresses his high spirits and ambitions at that time, and his ambition to build a beautiful homeland on the frontier land in poetry. The 17th Regiment of the Corps where the author was at that time was located in Tangyuan County, Heilongjiang Province. In 1971, the Corps established an artillery regiment. The Corps headquarters decided to place the artillery regiment in Tangyuan and ordered the 17th Regiment to go to the Puya River area to reopen wasteland and build points. Puya River is located at the intersection of Heilongjiang River and Songhua River. It is an undeveloped virgin land and is very desolate. The veterans at that time dedicated their whole lives to Beidahuang, building it into China's largest commercial grain base, and turning a barren land into a beautiful home today. Today, most of them have rested on this land, and the few remaining have entered their twilight years. When the author saw the prosperous scene of Beidahuang again, and thought that this was the result of the hard work of an entire generation of 100,000 demobilized officers and soldiers, he couldn't help but have mixed feelings.
