Peacock Flying Southeast·feng Qiuhuang (the Complete Works of Zhang Henshui·25th Anniversary Edition)
About This Novel
"Peacock Flying Southeast" is adapted from the long narrative poem "Peacock Flying Southeast" of the same name, based on a marriage tragedy that occurred in Lujiang County (now Huaining and Qianshan, Anhui) during the reign of Emperor Xian of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It mainly tells the story of Jiao Zhongqing and Liu Lanzhi who were forced to separate and commit suicide. It accuses the cruelty and ruthlessness of feudal ethics and praises the sincere feelings and resistance spirit of Jiao and Liu. "Phoenix Seeking Phoenix" tells the story of Sima Xiangru's visit to Zhuo's family. He played and sang "Phoenix Seeking Phoenix" in the lobby of Zhuo's family, which made Zhuo Wenjun, who was listening behind the curtain, excited. After meeting Sima Xiangru, they fell in love at first sight and they both agreed to elope. After Zhuo Wenjun and Sima Xiangru returned to Chengdu, facing the situation where their family was living in poverty, they generously returned to their hometown in Linqiong to open a wine shop and sold wine as a bartender, which finally made their father, who wanted to save face, admit their love.
