
About This Novel
"Hua Tatura" is Li Er's debut novel. It was published by People's Literature Publishing House in January 2002. It takes the search for the protagonist Ge Ren as the basic clue and solves the mystery of Ge Ren's life and death as the structural core. It describes Ge Ren's life circumstances, political pursuits and love experiences in his short life, and tells the story of his personal destiny in historical turmoil. It received enthusiastic reviews after its publication and was generally considered by critics to be one of the best novels of 2001-2002. It won the first 21st Century Dingjun Biennial Literary Award together with Mo Yan's "Sandalwood Punishment" and was shortlisted for the 6th Mao Dun Literary Award. The most distinctive feature of the novel is that it uses the oral accounts of three parties and a large number of quotations to complete the narrative. There are many characters in the book with different temperaments and identities. They narrate this historical mystery in different tones, which is meaningful and triggers our experience and thinking about history and reality, truth and fiction, memory and forgetting, chatter and silence, and other living conditions.
