Dante (Dante Alighieri, 1265-1321), the greatest poet in Italy, enjoys a reputation as famous as Homer and Shakespeare in the history of Western literature. His masterpiece "The Divine Comedy", which took him more than ten years to complete, represents the highest achievement of medieval literature. The year 2021 marks the 700th anniversary of Dante's death. Mr. Zhu Weiwei's translation of "The Divine Comedy" is recognized as a classic poetic translation. It has been published in many editions by our publisher before and has been well received by readers. It is now included in a new edition in the "Translation Edition Illustrated Collection of World Literature Masterpieces" series. The illustrations created by Doré, a famous French printmaker in the 19th century, for "The Divine Comedy" are the most widely circulated. We have also used Doré's illustrations in previous editions, but our "Illustrated Collection" specifically uses the illustrations of the famous Dadaist master and famous German-American painter George Grosz (1893-1959). Grosz was invited to create more than thirty illustrations for the 1932 edition of the American Modern Library's "The Divine Comedy," all of which are included in our "Illustrated Collection" in order to provide readers with a fresh modernist perspective for understanding and appreciating classic literary masterpieces.
