About This Novel
This book is the most heart-wrenching and shocking masterpiece of the great German writer Thomas Mann in his later years. The protagonist of the novel is the fictional composer Adrian Leverkuhn, a young man with musical talent and a bright future. However, he is not satisfied with the status quo and pursues "truly great success", so he made a deal with the devil in exchange for 24 years of musical inspiration and creativity; during this period, his soul was owned by the devil, and he was not allowed to love. However, just as his art was rising, the environment around him Crisis of moral degradation continued to appear, and he himself began to violate the prohibition against loving others; people began to die around him, his acquaintances committed suicide, and his gay boyfriend was shot dead by a married woman... Adrian was so distraught that he suddenly woke up and wanted to repent of his life. In the end, he collapsed physically and mentally, and was taken back to his hometown by his mother. After ten years of madness, he died in 1940.
