About This Novel

The review version of "Old Nest Traces" is a novel-style memoir written by Mr. Jin Kemu under the pseudonyms of Zhuo'an layman and Bagongshanren. The book uses spectatorship and narration, through the eyes of an innocent child, to vividly outline the decline and differentiation of a small intellectual bureaucratic family, and push the entire society and the changes of that era into a hazy prospect, depicting the social changes and folk customs in a corner of Jiangnan in China that originated from the late Qing Dynasty and followed the May Fourth Movement, interspersed with the bittersweet literacy career of a child. Through the decline and division of a big family, we can get a glimpse of the social turmoil and changes of the times.
