About This Novel

"The Children's Train" is a novel about children's education and growth by the Italian Neapolitan writer Viola Aldone. The story begins in Naples in the autumn of 1946, where there was poverty, despair, and most people were illiterate. A seven-year-old boy, Amerigo, lived with his mother in a shabby house in a slum. He boarded a train with thousands of southern children and went to live with a northern family for a few months. Amerigo found himself and his dreams far away from his familiar native environment, his mother and the alleys of Naples, and changed the destiny of his life. When he returned to his hometown in 1995, he still saw many street kids who had no future and no family support. Looking back on his past, Amerigo's decisive attitude towards breaking away from his hometown has also changed. Children need care for their growth. As a successful man, Amerigo also gained inner salvation through his care for his nephew.
