About This Novel
The novel is based on the characters and deeds that happened in the Siming Mountain Anti-Japanese Base in Yin County, Ningbo. It depicts a group of disbanded New Fourth Army and National Army soldiers who wanted to go home and live a peaceful life. They met by chance in an ancestral hall in a county. In order to recover from their injuries and return home, they experienced small conflicts and worked together. There are thought-provoking stories such as love, friendship, and life and death decisions. In order to stop the Japanese invaders, these 36 soldiers, together with the local people, took up arms to defend their homes and country. The novel successfully creates a group of flesh-and-blood characters with different identities and personalities. The writer is good at capturing human nature subtly and meticulously, revealing warmth and humor in his calm and even cruel portrayals. The novel starts from the small characters and small environment during the war, and writes about the grudges and separations between the small characters in the big background.
