"The Preacher's Daughter" tells the story of Ellie, a young and sensitive woman, her childhood and youth, and her longing for love. The book describes how Ellie's father opposed his daughter's participation in boys' games, ignored his daughter's thirst for knowledge, and finally forcibly interrupted her studies and asked her to marry a man she did not love, thereby repeating her mother's life trajectory, which was to be content with a loveless marriage. The author criticizes the Finnish society at that time for neglecting girls' mental training and female education, as well as women's weak status in marriage.
