About This Novel
The story takes place in Youfang District, Jianping during the Republic of China. The mothers-in-law of Li Jingquan and Zhang Dachang each gave birth to a boy and girl. They were born on the same day in the same month of the same year. The boy was a few minutes older than the girl. The boy's name is Li Guiwu and the girl's name is Zhang Qiushuang. When Li Guiwu was six years old, because his father and brother went to foreign mines and could not come back, he buried his dead grandfather and began to study in a private school again, becoming a disciple of Li Xiucai.
