Metamorphosis
by Kafka
About This Novel
"When I woke up in the morning, I found that I had turned into a beetle. I was shocked, struggling, remorseful, and regretful, but no one cared." Gregor was originally the financial supporter of the family, taking care of his parents and sister. But what happened that morning changed everything: his appearance as a beetle scared away his superiors who came to urge him to work. After losing his ability to work and his image as a human being, his family's attitude also changed drastically. He was unable to communicate with others, but he retained human emotions. In great loneliness, he silently examined the world... His world had indeed changed, and the world itself seemed to be like this. "Metamorphosis" uses an absurd fable to focus on the alienation of people in modern society.
