About This Novel

In the world of the Wheel of Time, time is a wheel with seven spokes (a big snake surrounds a seven-spoke wheel end to end). Each spoke is an epoch. As the spokes of the wheel turn, eras change. Note that each epoch is very long, so although the wheel only has seven spokes, by the time it makes one revolution, the previous epoch has often been long forgotten. In ancient times, after the War of Shadows, those crazy male Aes Sedai completely changed the face of the earth before they died: mountains were flattened, flatlands gave rise to mountains, drylands replaced oceans, and oceans covered drylands... Nothing of the past remained, and the surviving humans struggled to find food everywhere, just to survive for one more day. Several epochs later, it is impossible for non-scholars to know bits and pieces of information about the War of Shadows and the War of Shattering Worlds, and even for scholars, they only know certain fragments.
