About This Novel

"Hyakumonogatari in the Front Alley" is a modern Japanese novel, one of Kyogoku Natsuhiko's masterpieces of monster novels, and the fourth part of the Hyakumonogatari series. The series also includes "Hakumonogatari in the Alley", "Hakumonogatari in the Back Alley", "Hakumonogatari in the Back Alley" and "Hakumonogatari in the West Alley". Among them, "Hakumonogatari in the Back Alley" won the 130th Naoki Award, and "Hakumonogatari in the West Alley" won the 24th Shibata Renzaburo Award. Hyakumonogatari is a popular game in Japan during the Edo period. On summer nights, people dressed in green clothes gathered in a dark room, lit a hundred candles, and took turns telling scary stories, blowing out one candle after each story. According to legend, when all the candles are extinguished, a vision will be triggered and monsters will be awakened. On the bustling streets of Edo Castle, there is a shop called "Enma House". Legend has it that as long as you pay the appropriate fee, any wish you have can come true in this store.
