About This Novel

"Hyakumonogatari in the West Alley" is a classic work by Kyogoku Natsuhiko, the king of monster novels. It is the final chapter of the Hyakumonogatari series and won the 24th Shibata Renzaburo Award in 2011. The series also includes "Hundred Stories in the Alley", "Hundred Stories in the Alley", "Hundred Stories in the Back Alley" and "Hundred Stories in the Front Alley". Among them, "Hundred Stories in the Back Alley" won the 130th Naoki Award. "Hyakumonogatari" is a popular game in Japan's Edo period. On summer nights, people dressed in green clothes gathered in a dark room, lit a hundred candles, and took turns telling scary stories, blowing out one candle after each story. According to legend, when all the candles are extinguished, a vision will be triggered and monsters will be awakened. "Hundred Stories of Xixiangshu" mainly tells about the strange stories told by alleys in Kyoto, Osaka and other Kansai areas, hence the name "Tales from Xixiangshu". There is a strange man named Lin Zang in Osaka City. He is both good and evil, and can speak well.
