Cody's Vision
by Jack Kerouac
About This Novel
"The Vision of Cody" is the longest work by the famous American writer Jack Kerouac, and he evaluated it as "a book full of youthful atmosphere." The book uses experimental writing techniques to recreate the travel experiences of Kerouac and Neal Cassady (aka Cody) in the late 1940s, and records many real conversations between the two. The first part allows readers to understand the origin of the book "On the Road"; the second part is a transcript of the conversation between Kerouac and Cody about the Beat lifestyle; the third part is a conversation between the two created by Kerouac's imagination, recalling the trip he and Cody experienced together. The book is a first-hand account for readers to understand how their views confront and collide with each other. The text is followed by Allen Ginsberg's detailed explanation and evaluation of this work.
