About This Novel

"The Wind Rises" is Hayao Miyazaki's final original novel. The male protagonist accompanies his fiancée Setsuko who is seriously ill, and goes to the mountains to recuperate and spend the last period of Setsuko's life together. In the isolated Yatsugatake foothills, abandoning the hustle and bustle of the world, only each other remained in their lives. Love becomes more profound in this beautiful scene. Together they appreciate the happiness of life, and are sad that this happiness is tainted with the shadow of death...

A touch of happiness, a touch of sadness

The author's writing style is delicate and he tells this story in a plain tone. I felt quite moved by the story of Setsuko and the protagonist. I like the style of this novel very much, it is plain yet gorgeous. When reading this book, I lost a lot of the impetuousness that the real world brings to me. My heart is very quiet. When the wind blows, we can close our eyes and listen to the voice of the wind saying that I love you.

The sentence that left the deepest impression on me: Impermanence is like the rising wind, life cannot be abandoned.

Before I finished reading, I never imagined how dark my mood would be after reading this book.

Damn little Japan is really going to give me a knife. I didn't expect that this faint sadness would also lightly touch my heart. This feeling of losing my lover, in Little Japan's understatement, it was like a hand grabbing my heart, making it difficult to breathe smoothly. Maybe I really can't accept this bleak ending. Sometimes when I read it, I really imagine that in the current online novels, there is a god with the power to travel to him and cure Setsuko's illness. However, I also think that the reason why this relationship is so precious is that it is irretrievably lost in a period of youth when love is flourishing. After reading it, I was filled with regrets and sadness. Maybe I am really a sentimental person. Even reading a novel made my heart so sensitive that I could not calm down for a long time.
