The story of "The Song of the Sad Cafe" takes place in a small town in the southern United States in the 1940s, dominated by textile workers. There is a wealthy Miss Amelia in the town. She has slanted eyes, is strong and aggressive, and looks like a man. On her wedding night, she once kicked out of bed Marcy, a handsome man who had been pursuing her for several years, and then walked out. But after she met Xiao Luo Guo Li Meng, she fell in love at first sight. In order to please Li Meng, she opened a cafe at home, giving the residents of the town a cheerful entertainment place. Marcy, who became a criminal, came back on parole to seek revenge on Amelia, but Hunchback Lemon suddenly became obsessed with him. In order to "win back" Li Meng's love, Amelia and Marcy have a wrestling duel in the cafe. Just when Amelia was about to win, Li Meng jumped up to help Marcy knock Amelia to the ground. From then on, Amelia retreated to the small building to live in seclusion, while Li Meng and Marcy destroyed the cafe and fled to a foreign country with no idea of where they ended up. The ruined cafe made the town even more dreary than before. "The Song of the Sad Cafe" tells the story of loneliness, hopeless love, and the weirdness and alienation of human nature.
