Stragglers in the 1970s
by Jiang Zidan
About This Novel
In recent years, there have been frequent activities to take stock of youth years, such as commemorating the number of years since the educated youths went to the countryside, and the number of years since the college entrance examination was resumed. The first thing the organizers thought of was to publish memoirs and picture albums, hoping to restore that period of history with the different expressions of each person who experienced it. I have received several phone calls and emails asking me to write about the life of educated youths and college life. Some people also asked me if I had ever worked in a factory or joined the army. It's a pity that I can't join any group and I'm not qualified. I had never been an educated youth, a worker, a female soldier, nor had I participated in the college entrance examination that everyone was rushing towards at that time. I was just a straggler. Among my peers, my experience may be a bit unique, and writing it down will inevitably be dull, but in any case, it is a growing experience for me personally, and it is the mark left by a small person on the times.
