About This Novel

This is a long historical novel about the famous general Wu Qi during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. The novel uses Langhu Ridge and Lishi City as the main backgrounds to show the various life styles and the joys and sorrows of the characters in Xihe County of Wei State (commonly known as Langhu County). In the thirty-eighth year of Wei Wenhou (409 BC), the 32-year-old Wu Qi trained and created an elite army of Wei Wuzu in Langhu Ridge. When the Qin army attacked Zhao Guoli Shiyi City, he rushed to help and narrowly defeated the enemy. Then he attacked Qin, captured five cities in a row, and defeated 500,000 Qin troops with 50,000 Wei soldiers. Wu Qi fought for many years and defended the Xihe River. He fought with the Qin army for seventy-six times and won sixty-four times. The remaining twelve times were tied. Unexpectedly, the Prime Minister's uncle Cuo was jealous of talents and slandered Wu Hou of Wei, and Wu Qi was dismissed. In desperation, Wu Qi left Chu State to serve as Wanshou, and was subsequently appointed by King Chu Dao as Ling Yin to implement reforms. The novel also interprets Wu Qi's mental journey when he compiled "Zuo Zhuan" and "Wu Zi's Art of War", as well as a group of historical figures such as Qin Jiangong, Wei Wenhou, Wei Wuhou, Gongzi Lian (Ying Shixi) and other historical figures in the same period, as well as the tragic fate of Wu family, Tian Xiaoxuan, Xiao Qiong, Dai Furong and other concubines and singers who accompanied him in various periods, making people sigh after reading it.
