All civil and military officials were timid and avoided fighting. The eunuch Du Xun surrendered privately, and Emperor Chongzhen hanged himself on Meishan Mountain. After the rebel army entered the city, they were dissolute and greedy. Liu Zongmin seized Chen Yuanyuan, Sangui moved Qing troops into the pass, and Li Zicheng was defeated. He hid in Jiulong Mountain and was trapped and killed by the villagers. Emperor Chongzhen and his loyal ministers who died in the festival were all promoted to the immortal world.
