About This Novel
"Da Bodhisattva Ridge" is called "the longest historical novel in the world". This work was serialized from 1913 to 1941, with a total of 41 volumes. The novel is set in the Bakumatsu period. It tells the story of the swordsman Ryuunosuke who killed a pilgrim in Koshu Daibosatsu Ridge to test his sword, and then embarked on the path of magic step by step. It vividly describes the people and events of the Shinsengumi and the Bakumatsu samurai class. The author calls "Da Bodhisattva Ridge" a "Mahayana novel" and depicts the karma of the world with Buddhist thought as the center. Literary researcher Hiroshi Nakatani evaluated this novel as "the mother of Japanese popular literature." Unfortunately, the novel was not completed until the author's death. "Mibu and Shimabara" is the third volume of the book. It has been adapted into film and television works many times, creating a classic in the history of Japanese film.
