"The Burning Angel" is the most famous historical novel by Russian symbolist leader V. Bryusov. This is a myth with an extremely strange situation. It is set in Germany in the 16th century. It tells a love triangle between the devil, the knight and the passionate girl Renata. It reflects the historical features of Russia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There are magic, death spells, and spiritualism; there is lingering and heartbreaking love; there are "ancient customs" of foreign lands and times that are simulated and described in an archaeological language style to compare and reflect the atmosphere of the Russian society at that time, and to reflect the "reassuring and boiling contemporary life" at that time.
