About This Novel
This book is a love novel about betrayal and redemption. British woman Katie is dissatisfied and boring in her marriage. After her husband Walter discovers his wife's infidelity, he takes Katie with him to the distant mainland of China to quell a cholera epidemic that is going crazy. In the beautiful but dangerous environment of a foreign country, they experienced torture and death. After Katie experienced disillusionment and separation from life and death, the veil of life was gradually lifted from her eyes, and she embarked on a path of spiritual growth without regrets.

An astonishing novel. Because of the widely circulated "I have no illusions about you," he said: "I know you are stupid, frivolous, and empty-minded, but I love you." The first half of the novel is indeed about love, while the second half is more philosophical, exploring the meaning of life, which truly corresponds to the title, the hypocritical and twisted human nature hidden under the veil, and the development of the plot is surprising enough and worth reading.
