Bid farewell to the prosperity of Paris and come to live in V town in southern France. Unexpectedly, I discovered that my friend "Hitchhiker" from college nearly twenty years ago also lived there, started a family, and had children. And my arrival reminded the "hitchhikers" of the joy of hitchhiking in the past. He began to fall back on his old tunes and spent more and more time away from home, confusing his family. While I was taking care of his housework, I gradually developed a relationship with his wife Mary. Mary also turns the page after a desperate attempt to win back her "hitchhiker" fails. Everyone formed new stable relationships after painful adjustments. I took his place in the family, but he didn't leave our lives. He traveled around France according to certain rules - alphabetical order, meaning of place names - and sent local photos to each place he visited, and told stories about what happened between him and the driver. He is like a tentacle that we extend out. One day, he sent an e-mail to everyone who had driven him and invited them to gather in a small village called "Companion". To my surprise, on the day of the party, the small village was packed with people from all over France. He, who kept running on the highway, became the road between everyone and the bond between strangers.
