About This Novel

In early September 2007, as a doctoral student in the History Department of East China Normal University, the author flew to the Institute of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada, for one academic year. With the assistance of Professor Qi Mushi, an expert on the history of the Chinese Communist Party, and Bu Zhengmin, a famous expert on Chinese history, I stayed at St. John's College of the school. This college, where international students from all over the world integrate accommodation, study, leisure, and cultural exchanges, provides the best channel for me, who is going abroad for the first time, to closely observe the similarities and differences between China and the West, and to personally experience the culture of North American colleges and society.
