About This Novel

The ancient texts selected in this book are mainly prose, with rhymes and parallel prose included. The most selected works in the pre-Qin Dynasty were "Zuo Zhuan", the most popular works in the Han Dynasty were "Historical Records", and the most popular works in the Tang and Song Dynasties were articles by Han Yu, Liu Zongyuan, Ouyang Xiu, and Su Shi. From a stylistic point of view, the book selects thirteen verses, such as "Chu Ci·Buju", Tao Yuanming's "Returning Ci", Du Mu's "Afanggong Fu", etc. These works are "extremely beautiful in sound and appearance but poor in prose", and are good at description. Although rhyme is used in the description, unlike poetry, rhyme and prose are often combined to enhance the beauty of voice and emotion. Prose can be about people or events, discussions, fables, etc.
