About This Novel
This book is one of the series of books on developing reading ability of classics. Ji Yun began writing when he served as the chief compiler of "Sikuquanshu" and wrote it successively from the fifty-fourth year of Qianlong (1789) to the third year of Jiaqing (1798). The whole book is composed of five parts: "Luanyang Xiaoxialu", "This is what I heard", "Huaixi Magazine", "Guwan listened to it" and "Luanyang continuation", with a total of twenty-four volumes and nearly 1200 items. The content is rich, including medicine, divination, astrology, three religions and nine streams, all of which are covered. There are many chapters that sharply expose the social contradictions at that time, expose the hypocrisy of moralists, sympathize with the people's misery, praise the people's diligence and wisdom, and boldly express their views and opinions on some unsympathetic theories that were common in society at that time, which have high ideological and academic value.
