This book was compiled and selected by retired scholars from Hengtang in the Qing Dynasty. It is an anthology of Tang poetry that has great influence and is widely circulated. The poems selected in this book are arranged according to poetry styles, including five-character ancient poetry, seven-character ancient poetry, five-character rhythmic poetry, seven-character rhythmic poetry, five-character quatrains, seven-character quatrains, Yuefu poetry, etc. The selected works are representative and include classic poems by important poets of the Tang Dynasty such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Bai Juyi, Wang Wei, Wang Changling and others.
