About This Novel
Before Yuan Zhancaijun's collection of essays "Awkward Life" was published, he asked me to write some words. I was grateful for the praise, but I couldn't resist the kindness, so I decided to browse a few articles to get a better understanding. Unexpectedly, I was attracted and moved by this reading. It took me two days to read the whole book without letting go. In the book, the old events that took place in the countryside and the neighborhood parties that have slipped through the historical mesh are like silhouettes, gradually displayed in front of us, clearly identifiable and ready to be revealed. Yuan Zhancai wrote about his neighbors, relatives, and village affairs in his memories with passion and in an almost original language, interpreting the hardships and happiness, the ordinary and the noble, the simple and clever, and giving people a simple and natural beauty.
