About This Novel

Chen Jian (1937-) was born in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. Member of the Communist Party of China. In 1956, he was admitted to the Chinese Department of Hangzhou University. After graduation, he stayed at the school to teach and engage in teaching and research of modern Chinese literature. He was named a professor in 1990 and served as the director of the Chinese Department of Zhejiang University from 1999 to 2002.
