About This Novel
In China, Peking University and Tsinghua University are well-known institutions of higher learning. Peking University began as the Capital University founded by the reformists during the Reform Movement of 1898. In the 1920s, it brought together almost the entire intellectual elite in China. The "Peking University Spirit" in a sense represents a certain spirit of modern Chinese intellectuals. Tsinghua University was originally a preparatory school for studying in the United States built with the Boxer Indemnity money. After the struggle and construction of successive presidents, it finally became an independent university. Tsinghua University implements the educational philosophy of "general knowledge first, specialized knowledge last", requiring students to have extensive knowledge in nature, society, and humanities. It can be said that since their establishment in the late Qing Dynasty, these two universities have profoundly influenced Chinese society and shaped China's modern history. This book starts from the Red Chamber of Peking University and the Gongzi Hall of Tsinghua University, covering the student movement during the Republic of China, the turbulent Southwest Alliance during the All-out Anti-Japanese War, and the game of various forces during the Civil War. There are masters and students in the story. No matter in what period, scholars from Peking University and Tsinghua University have contributed to the survival of the country and the development of the nation with their insight and the spirit of taking the world as their own responsibility.
