About This Novel
"Shangshi Street" is Xiao Hong's masterpiece of prose. This book contains a complete collection of 41 essays from "Shangshi Street" first published by Cultural Life Publishing House in 1936, and 19 representative prose works of Xiao Hong from different periods, such as "In Memory of Mr. Lu Xun", "Chang'an Temple", "To the Exiles in the Northeast" and "September 18 Letter to My Brother" written by Xiao Hong to his younger brother. Many of the selected chapters record the poor but happy life of Xiao Hong and Xiao Jun when they lived together. They are highly autobiographical and are the best entry point to understand Xiao Hong's life. The overall style has strong characteristics of social customs paintings, with concise and simple language, sincere emotions and very strong readability.
