This book uses the places Lao She visited throughout his life as clues to collect his essays from various issues and places. Such as Beijing where he was born, London where he studied, Jinan Qingdao where he taught, Wuhan, Chengdu, Chongqing during the Anti-Japanese War, etc. Due to the characteristics of the author's personal style, these essays are not simply lyrical travel notes, but a collection of overall perceptions of the times, people, events and things he experienced. They are humorous and affectionate in Beijing style. It can be used as Lao She's autobiographical experience, tying together the main life processes of most of his life, and at the same time artistically reproducing the changes of the times.
