Rong Xinjiang is from Luannan, Hebei Province. He was admitted to the Department of History at Peking University in 1978 and stayed at the school to teach in 1985. He is currently a professor at the Department of History at Peking University and the Research Center for Ancient Chinese History, director of the Academic Committee of the Department of History at Peking University, and vice president of the China Dunhuang Turpan Society. He has visited or lectured in Japan.
