Teng Gu's original name was Teng Cheng, with the courtesy name Ruoqu. He was born in Yuepu Town, Baoshan County, Jiangsu Province (now Shanghai) in the 27th year of Guangxu's reign (October 13, 1901). Teng Gu is an accomplished art theorist. He is good at poetry and calligraphy. He likes to paint lotuses and has written many books.
