About This Novel
A classic work of Western literature, a pastoral song belonging to all eras. "Pastoral" is an important work by the ancient Roman poet Virgil. It consists of 10 short poems. It tells the pastoral scenery, shepherd's life and love stories in ancient Rome in poetic language. It has wonderful imagination and concise words. It is regarded as a model of Latin literature. This book is translated based on the Latin original. The translation is in the form of prose poetry. The translator Dang Sheng annotated the whole book and wrote an introduction and postscript. The book is equipped with illustrations, using 11 masterpieces in the history of European painting to present the artistic conception and beauty of the poem.

The translator has translated the pastoral songs into ancient Chinese. Some passages are like Chu Ci, some are like Tang and Song prose, and some are probably similar to parallel prose. Although this article is a pastoral, it does not feel like a simple and real description of the countryside, let alone much description of pastoral life. After reading it twice in a row, I finally understood it a little better. Books that are not from the national culture always seem to be separated by another layer. I'll have a chance to read Yang Yixian's translation in the future. If the translator is different, the article may be completely different.
