This book consists of two articles: "Existentialism as a Humanism" and "Today's Hope: A Conversation with Sartre". The former was published in 1946, and the latter was published shortly before his death in 1980. Sartre repeatedly emphasized that his existentialism is essentially an optimistic philosophy full of hope for life.
